SEEN AND HEARD AT THE STUDIO:
 Rick Ross stopped in recently to put a verse on "Area," a track on the upcoming Curtis Young record. Yes, the Rick Ross. Rick came in and handled business right before hitting the stage at On Broadway. He is truly a master at his craft.
Dreamtiger, San Diego's premier Shoegaze band, has just wrapped up their new E.P. It is in the mastering process now and will be out soon.
Recently mixed and ready to hit the mastering process is Deep Rooted's new record "Album Three."
 Capricorn Studios has also completed the debut from Bedford Grove, "Welcome to Our Side of Town", and 2 tracks "Beware" and "Carnival" for The Silent Comedy's Self-titled EP.

Getting Your Tracks "Mix Ready":
With the growing phenomena of home recording and the popularity of Pro Tools, I have been mixing more projects recorded by artists at home who ask me to give it that "pro studio sound." While I love getting involved with projects at this stage, I often have to spend time cleaning up the session files before getting to the "right brained" creative work. So I want to share some tips on preparing your tracks in Pro Tools to make them "mix ready."
These steps will help keep your engineer focused on the music and in that "creative mode." If you are having trouble with these simple tasks, or want to learn more about Pro Tools in general, please look into our 101 class at The Recording Arts Center.

Name tracks with simple names like "BASS" OR "LEAD VOX". This will save time and confusion.
Make any tracks not used "Inactive." Select the track and choose "make inactive" in the Tracks Menu.
Record all essential Fx (plug-ins) to a new audio track. We may not have the same plug-ins (but probably do). It's good to keep the "dry" track available, but muted.
Make sure all audio files are in the correct folder and on the same drive. Look in the Regions window, and click "show full path." This will prevent any complications and delays.
Keep automation to a minimum. As levels change during the mix it may become obsolete. |
